Prof. Ooi is an experienced surgical oncologist specializing in hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the combined Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary service at Singapore General Hospital and the National Cancer Centre Singapore, now the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Transplant Surgery department. He is extensively involved in various aspects of liver cancer research and clinical studies. Additionally, he has trained many HPB surgeons in the region.

He has also served as the former Chairman of Surgery at Singapore General Hospital, Associate Director of the National Cancer Centre, Inaugural Chairman of ACP Surgery at SingHealth, and Founder/Director of SingHealth Transplant. Prof. Ooi has published more than 280 peer-reviewed articles.
